There are two types of tablet PCs on the market. There is the convertible type which look like a standard laptop computer but the screen can rotate and fold down turning it into a tablet PC. There is also the slate type which does away with the keyboard entirely. When looking to buy a tablet laptop computer you must first decide what you want to get out of it and what features are a must.

If you are looking for a tablet PC for taking notes in class or for artistic purposes then a slate will probably be a good fit for you. A slate is like carrying around a pad of paper. If you are doing a lot of text entry then you're probably going to want the conventional because keyboards are best for typing. Because slate computers are designed to be sleek they also tend to do away with the DVD drive. If you intend to watch movies or install software on your system you will need a DVD drive. If the DVD player is not built in to the system then it's one more thing you will have to carry around.

When looking at buying tablet laptop computers you also have to consider the processor, screen size and resolution. If you want speed then a dual core system is a must. Most tablets now come with dual core processors and it doesn't add much if anything to the cost. The more Mhz the system has the faster it will go. The more memory you have, up to about 4GB, the smoother your system will run. Unless you know you will be working with software that requires more memory than that there is no need to go above 4GB. 2GB or 3GB should be sufficient for the average user.

Screen size and resolution are what tend to impact the price the most. If you're an artist looking for something to create art on then you're going to want a larger screen and higher resolution. If you want to take notes and watch movies occasionally you could get by with a smaller screen and lower resolution.

When buying tablet laptop computer there is a lot to consider. Figure out what you must have and what you can afford and then research what is available and then buy the system that best meets your needs.
