Compact notebook computers are gaining more attention nowadays. Since the early 2000's it seems as if computers and other electronic devices are shrinking and drastically becoming more streamlined. It is very tempting to take an extra look at one of the compact notebook computers populating the shelves when you are shopping for a new machine.

The designs are eyecatching and the colors are gorgeous. But are these computers good machines? Are these computers truly going to be able to complete the tasks that you need accomplished?

The answer truly depends on the tasks that you want to complete. If you'd just like to complete basic web browsing and document creation, you will probably be fine with one of the most basic models of compact notebook computers. You probably will not need to buy any extra things to make your machine work for you.

If you want to use your compact notebook computer for more complex things, you might want to buy some add ons. Chances are you can make one of these tiny machines complete many tasks. In order to make these computers work for complex tasks like graphics creation, music creation and massive document and data manipulation, you're going to have to add on memory and possibly upgrade the processor to a larger one. Some of these computers will not be able to handle super large processors so you have to consult with an expert to determine what is realistically feasible for the machine you're considering.

When you install complex graphics and audio software to a compact notebook computer, you're going to have to install most of it to an external drive. You will want to buy an external storage device to keep the whole package as small as possible, but your going to want to buy the best one on the market. You're going to want one with a lot of GBs. You might even want to purchase several depending on how much software you're going to want to use with your machine. Though you do have room on your machine for software, you want to save as much of that RAM as possible to keep your machine running smoothly.

Whenever you use the software installed on one of your external drives, you will have to have that drive plugged into your USB port. Though there may be icons in your start menu and programs list indicating that the software is installed when the drive is unplugged, the software will not function unless the corresponding drive is plugged in.
