Steve Jobs signaled the beginning of a new era in the laptop computing world when he introduced the MacBook Air one in 2008. At that time there was nothing else like it. Since then several competitors have been inspired to enter this new segment of the computer world. The Asus Eee PC 1008HA netbook is a welcome addition to the class.

“The Seashell” as it is called by its creators doesn’t get many points for style in my book. It has a sleek exterior curve to it, but the ultra shiny exterior surface gives it a toy-like appearance to me. But if looks were all that counted for anything, the world would be a beautiful, but otherwise very boring place.
The Asus Eee PC 1008HA does offer an unexpected forward thinking feature. It is the first netbook to sport the Atom N280 processor making it slightly faster than its competitors. Almost all other netbooks use the N270 processor. Its other core specs are solid, 1 GB DDR2 memory, 160 GB hard drive, and a 10-inch 1,024 X 600 display, but nothing to induce the excessive use of emoticons.
It does not fair well in the Oops test. This one is much more sensitive than it is rugged. The screen does not have the reflective nuisances of some in the notebook class, and performs as well as most netbooks. All external connection points on the Asus Eee PC 1008HA are covered by flaps. While this does complete the awesome-looking symmetry of its “Seashell” appearance, it does make for quite a bit of fidgeting when trying to use the external connections. Also included is the first digital display output in the netbook segment. It is worth noting as well that this netbook has a very user friendly keyboard- something that cannot be said of many netbooks. In real world testing the battery life was impressive. You can expect over four hours of battery life every time you use the Asus Eee PC 1008HA. It is disappointing that the battery is an internal part and cannot be removed.
At the end of the day, the Asus Eee PC 1008HA is a solid member of the netbook class of computers. It resides in the middle of the field, and if you like sleek smooth design features, then it is right netbook for you. There are deals to be had on them on E-bay.
