Samsung has been building laptops for several years, but this is their first foray into the U.S. market. This is due to the non-compete contract that Samsung signed with Dell. Many of Dell’s laptop components were supplied by Samsung in the not-so-distant past. In my humble opinion the Samsung X460-44P is an excellent first attempt to gain a share of the U.S. laptop market.
Samsung X460-44P
As far as style and design, the X460-44P sports a rather sleek, professional design. It is classy and fashionable without being flashy. It will turn a few heads and induce some envy from co-workers, but the shinny black and brushed metal exterior will need to be wiped clear of fingerprint smudges on a regular basis. It is one of the thinnest laptops available, which adds to its visual appeal. At the end of the day, this machine won’t be scoffed at in boardroom meetings or among your friends outside of work. It certainly has better styling than most all of its competitors in the business laptop class.
When it comes to features and performance, the X460-44P sports an ultra bright 14.1-inch display, an optical drive, and better-than-average battery life. A fingerprint reader, and TPM authentication are included to help keep all your important information secure. All this and it is small enough to be one of the most comfortable laptops on the market to carry. In fact, it weighs just 4.2 pounds, is .8 inches thick at its thinnest point, and 1.3 inches at its thickest. Samsung boasts a bacteria resistant silver nano coating to help keep you healthy. It boots an average of 20 seconds faster than the average top laptops in its class. Its 2.26-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 processor and 3GB of RAM offer excellent performance It also lives up to the Samsung brand name with above average sound and video quality. I just wish that it could be made to order, but for now it’s just WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get.
The Samsung X460-44P is economical as well. Priced at $1,699, it will also get you a nod of respect from the accounting department. Samsung has made a nice debut in the U.S. market, and seems to be ready to compete with the leaders in U.S. laptop sales. Sony, HP, and Dell should be worried about losing market share.
